Dawn Wall + Mohican Sun
Visual Identity | EP Artwork | Merch | Website | Marketing Content

The Challenge:
Dawn Wall is a drum & bass act wrapped in secrecy.
No photos. No faces. No interviews.
Just the music, and a growing fanbase that’s into the mystery.
That creates a challenge.
How do you promote something when the artist won’t be seen?
How do you build recognition without a face behind it?
And how do you give people something to connect with beyond just the track?
The identity needed to do more than look good.
It had to support the music and help build the overall experience around it.
The Approach:
Define → Build → Engage
This wasn’t about creating a logo and a couple of EP sleeves.
It was about building a visual and messaging system that sits alongside the music and brings the whole thing to life.
STEP 1.
Define: Shaping the World Around the Music
We started by understanding what Dawn Wall represents.
Not just visually, but as a project.
Mystery and anonymity
A sense of camouflage and intrigue
Playful interaction with fans
A strong sense of community
High-quality, carefully released music (not constant output)
Everything needed to reflect that.
The identity couldn’t overpower the music.
It had to support it, frame it, and add another layer to the experience.
STEP 2.
Build: Creating a Flexible Identity System
The core idea became the mask.
A hand-drawn tribal mask acting as a central visual anchor.
From there, we built out a system that could evolve with each release:
Custom EP artwork tied to the identity
Short-form promo videos to bring releases to life on social
A website to house the project and its world
Merchandise that lets fans physically connect with the identity
The key was flexibility.
Each release could feel fresh, but still clearly part of the same world.
Later, a second act, Mohican Sun, was introduced with its own mask.
Connected, but distinct, expanding the universe without breaking it.
STEP 3.
Engage: Building the Experience Around the Music
With the system in place, the focus shifted to how people interact with it.
Social teaser posts and videos built anticipation around each release
Merchandise gave fans a way to wear and represent the project
Over 1,000 online sales, turning identity into income
Some fans even went as far as getting tattoos of the masks
It became more than just visuals.
It created a full experience around the music.
Something people could follow, engage with, and feel part of.
The Outcome:
Dawn Wall now has an identity that works alongside the music, a over it.
Instantly recognisable without ever showing a face
Flexible across releases, content, and merch
Driving both engagement and revenue
A distinct world that fans actively want to be part of
The music leads.
The identity strengthens everything around it.
Why It Matters:
Not every project needs a front person.
But without something to connect to, it’s hard to build momentum.
This works because the identity doesn’t replace the artist.
It supports the music, builds intrigue, and gives people a way to engage beyond listening.
